Sherlockian Interview - Daniel Lenois

Posted by Steve Emecz on

With the upcoming launch of volumes 43-45 of The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories (currently on Kickstarter), we're talking to the authors involved. Today (11th April) it's Daniel Lenois.

Tell us a little about yourself – Where you live and your main hobbies.

I've lived in Connecticut all my life, the quaint suburban state where no one really asks your name or really wants anything to do with you. As someone who only sporadically ventures out into the spotlight, that's fine by me most of the time.
I'm currently embarking on an accelerated Master's of Arts in Teacher Education, specializing in English Literature, and just enjoying a bit of creative writing on the side. It doesn't hurt to practice what one preaches, does it?

What’s the name of your story in this collection, and what is it about (with no spoilers)?
I've written three separate stories, one for each of the three collections in this set.
"The Bell-Ringer's Requiem" sees Holmes and Watson setting off to investigate a highly-visible murder at a small local church.
"The Curious Case of the Transmuting Tome" reunites the dynamic literary duo as they investigate a repeated string of break-ins at a library, with the perpetrator repeatedly defacing a specific book, only for all evidence of the act seemingly disappearing within hours of the initial event.
"The Adventure of the Absentee Officer" has Holmes and Watson peering into the shadowy world of international espionage, as they attempt to locate....wait for it...an absentee intelligence officer. Plot twist!
Honestly, it's been an absolute pleasure to pen all three, and I look forward to hopefully returning to the comfortable quarters of 221B Baker Street sooner rather than later. I've learned a lot, and I'm looking forward to further sharpening my Sherlockian skills! David Marcum has been a delight to work with as an editor, and I'd like to think I haven't been too much of a disappointment to him at the end of the day.
What other projects have you recently completed that we can check out?
I've been pretty busy these last few months, since I graduated from Central Connecticut State University with an English Literature B.A. in December 2023. You can find recent examples of my work featured in Drabbledark III, Programmed Hearts, and Savage Planets. I've got other stuff in the works though. Submission deadlines wait for no one. The game is afoot...
